OLIVIER PY

Epistle to Young
Actors

In response to the request of the director of the National Superior Conservatory of Dramatic Art in Paris to theorize about theatrical art for amateur actors, the playwright and director Olivier Py wrote the play Epistle to young actors (Epître aux Jeunes Acteurs ). “The word is that love that is embodied in orality in the form of a promise,” says Olivier Py. On stage, the actors John Arnold and Samuel Churin, win the audience's laughter with interpretations of characters such as the spoilers, the cultural responsible, the policeman of desire, the minister of communication and the director of the conservatory of dramatic art. The show, which integrated the activities of the Year of France in Brazil, was presented for the first time at the Theater of the Paris Conservatory in 2000, and is, according to Olivier Py, an opportunity to address a wider audience than just apprentices in the art of acting. The text, written when the playwright was 35, is not about remembering that the art of representing the human is a political adventure in itself or extolling the seriousness of his mission, but rather a chance to give sense to the word 'Word'.
