The Vigils

Les veillées (The Vigils) is a performance composed by the construction of performances, artistic actions that generated texts, choreographies and the realisation of films that expose that meetings of artists and local population. It is about discovering a story, a strange simple story. It is about creating from what people tell us and what we need to say about the world. It is going to meet and see how the artists take possession of the real and position themselves (politically, artistically, I mean). The guiding thread of the work that is built over the course of interviews, travels and performances is the city or neighbourhoods in question. Not satisfied with making our shows to talk about our desire for social justice and equality on the stage, we went to the street, to the exit of the supermarkets, to the public squares, under the stairs to discuss and develop the process of creation directly with real neighbourhood actors. Make a living show. It's a live show! And we mix dance, theater, video, circus and the words of the locals. Les veillées ( The Vigils ) are successive creations. Each vigil is a new show conceived with the actors of a city where the company is installed. The unique spectacle of the vigils does not fit into the commonplace. It is created according to the meetings, the presence of the company here and there, as an evolving work that concludes with the representation that exposes the city, the art, the population encountered by a group of artists - adventurers - wandering - strollers - contestants who aspire, breathe, argue, dance. In a bar corner, in the middle of the street, on the balcony of a building, close to the bus stop. In the end, a representation that brings together all those who are interested and those who participated in the adventure. People who would not otherwise meet. This is the story, this is the risk! Otherwise, for what?

GUY ALLOUCHERIE

Since the beginning of the 1980s, has been directing at the Ballatum Theatre. Key words in his work are improvisation, dance and collective effort. In 1997, he came into contact with the circus when he worked with the ninth year of graduates from the Centre National des Arts du Cirque de Châlons-en-Champagne and set up the Cie Hendrick Van Der Zee (HVDZ) an ensemble with variable geometrics' where the artists come from drama, circus, dance or video arts. Creative work sites, experiments, research on social issues feed their work on the spoken and the written word, recounting experiences, childhood and memory. Since its origins, the company has produced about a dozen pieces including J'mexcuse or Les Sublimes. Increasing the number of co-directed projects, Guy Alloucherie listens and builds links, producing performances which try to bring together “militant commitment, cultural action and artistic research”.
