The Devil to Pay in the Backlands project presents a contemporary and urban vision of João Guimarães Rosa's books intertwining that imaginary and poetic backland, present in his greatest work - Grande Sertão: Veredas, with the busy streets and squares of São Paulo and some others cities around the state. A metallic structure, designed and built as a crossroads, “a rest in the midst of madness” is a continuous performance, lasting approximately 8 hours, in which the various levels of the work are mixed and reconstructed. A walk through the light and the dark, through the loves, rages, commands and misdeeds, through the nature and things of man, God and the Devil. Theater of objects, music, videos, storytelling, processions and readings compose a diagram, an open place, without closings, to experience the work of Guimarães Rosa.
